North Sealand has the highest concentration og museums anywhere in Denmark - from small, specialised sites to major museums housing internationally-recognised collections.
On this page you can see a small selection of what we have to offer.

The Karen Blixens Museum is just a few minutes walk from Rungsted Harbour. Karen Blixen (1885 – 1962) remains one of Denmark’s greatest writers. Rungstedlund opened the writer’s museum in 1991. Karen Blixen was born and grew up in the house and she spent a large part of her adult life there. Her grave lies under a great beech tree, in the park close to the museum.


Meet Rembrandt in Nivå

Nivå lies halfway between Rungsted and Humlebæk. It is home to one of Denmark’s fine, old museums – Nivågaards Malerisamling, known for its exceptional collection of older European maters, including Denmark’s only original Rembrandt. 


When a polar explorer plans

In the most northern part of North Sealand, all the way out to the west of Hundested, you will find Knud Rasmussen's House. Denmark’s famous polar explorer built the house by Spodsbjerg Lighthouse in 1971. He lived in the house between his journeys to the North Polar Region. The house hs been left as It was in Knud Rasmussen’s day. The interior is intact, including furniture, paintings and photographs.

Louisiana Museum of Modern Art 




Louisiana Museum of Modern Art is located in a large old park in Humlebæk, 15 km south of Helsingør. The park’s many sculptures blend nicely with the relaxed atmosphere that completely surrounds the large complex. Louisiana is well-known internationally for its large permanent exhibition, its changing exhibitions and films and concerts – and in more recent years for The Children’s Wing, a three-storey building, where children of all ages can be gently introduced to the wonderful world of modern art.

The Powder Mill in Frederikværk

An industrial museum of an international level. The little open-air museum is one of the finest preserved museums in the world. You can almost smell the cannon foundry and the powder mill.
  

Rusland in Dronningemølle

InRusland, an attractive park in North Sealand, the public can enjoy the many large and impressive sculptures created by sculptor Rudolph Tegner (1873 – 1950).

Rudolf Tegners Museum

In addition to the sculpture park, The Rudolf Tegner's museum is also worth visiting. The museum is located in the park and has over 250 works, executed in plaster, clay, bronze and marble.

LaMa Glas– a world of glass worth driving to

LaMa Glas
glassworks is located on an idyllic farm in North Sealand – a unique destination where you can enter a wonderful world of glass. And if you are lucky, you may even catch a glimpse of the glassblower at work.

Glassmedjen (The Glass Smithy)

In the glass smithy which is situated in the end of the peer at Hundested harbour, they make beautiful glass products, unique specimens as series of glass, lamps, bowls etc. It is a workshop, where you can see the glassblower in action.


Children and Art

Art is also for children - you can for example visit the Children's Wing at Louisiana, on three floors children can try their hand at art.

 

The Sculpture Route in Helsinge

In the beautiful area around Sandflugtsmonumentet in Tisvilde, ten Norweagian sculptures each created a giant sculpture in the mounth of August as art og "2000 Year of Culture".These sculptures are now positioned around the municipality. Visit the tourist offices and get more information
