Golfing paradise in North Sealand
The Danes have been playing golf for over a century, yet it remains the fastest growing sport in the country with world class courses, coaches and facilities. And some of the country’s very best courses are found amid the idyllic countryside of North Sealand.
If you are after a challenge, Helsingør Golf Club in northern Sealand, is a narrow, difficult park course with many of its holes lined with forest and demanding great precision. This is one of the oldest courses in Denmark and consistently ranks among the country’s ten best.
On the north coast is the beautiful Havreholm Slot (Havreholm Castle), a sensitively modernized castle hotel with its own nine-hole golf course.
Hornbæk Golfklub has one of Sealand’s prettiest new courses.
Simons Golf and Country Club – south of Helsingør – is designed by the world-famous course architect Martin Hawtreee. It is home to the Danish Open and considered another of the best courses in Denmark.
Rungsted Golf Club, along the coast just north of Copenhagen, is generally held to be one og the most beautiful golf courses in northern Europe (Tiger Woods once played here).
Near Esrum Lake in the beautiful Fredensborg you will find Fredenborg Golf Club. A bit further south Nivå Golfklub, one of North Sealand’s largest golf courses with four wellkept greens, lies in a scenic, undulating landscape.
In the vicinity, Gilleleje Golf Club is open to members of foreign clubs. Also, it is on the top 10, with many international tournaments.
Møllekilde Golf in Hundested is the first Organic golf court in Denmark. It is created by the architect Line Mortensen and owed by Grethe and Knud Erik Busk. The golf court is placed in the middle of Halsnæs next to Toup between Hundested and Frederiksværk and close to Melby and Liseleje.
Asserbo Golf Club is a real nature court, build into the terrain between Arresø and Roskilde Fiord. The court consists of 18 holes and was built in 1946. The court is designed by Peter Samuelsen and up-graded through times, so it meets all the expectations.
